The Givi Margvelashvili Award is a joint initiative of DVV International Georgia and the Goethe Institute. The award is given to persons to honour their contribution to the German-Georgian cultural relationship. The laureates of the years 2012 till 2017 were: the writer Givi Margvelashvili; Davit Lortkipanidze, general director of the Georgian National Museum and corresponding member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences; Lasha Bakradze, director of the Literature Museum in Tbilisi, historian and publicist; Nino Kharatishvili, Georgian-German writer and director; and the writer and translator Davit Tserediani.
This year the prize will be awarded to the Georgian fiction writer, philologist, Germanist, and civil society activist, Naira Gelashvili. The award ceremony will be held within the framework of the Frankfurt Book Fair, where Georgia is Guest of Honour this year.
