"The Future of Adult Education in Kosovo” Conference

DVV International - (German Adult Education Association) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MEST), the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MLSW), the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport (MCYS) and other education stakeholders in Kosovo, organized the Conference - “The Future of Adult Education in Kosovo” - held on November 22, 2019 at ‘Sirius’ Hotel in Pristina.

DVV International - (German Adult Education Association) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MEST), the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MLSW), the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport (MCYS) and other education stakeholders in Kosovo, organized the Conference - “The Future of Adult Education in Kosovo” - held on November 22, 2019 at ‘Sirius’ Hotel in Pristina. The Conference was attended by 115 persons, representatives of state institutions, NGOs, and other adult education providers in Kosovo. The conference was organized to analyze the current state of adult education in Kosovo and to identify the further steps necessary for the development of adult education. Based on the implementation of the Belem Framework for Action, and the mid-term review of the action plan, the Conference analyzed the implementation of the recommendations from CONFINTEA-VI, presented the progress achieved up to date and addressed the recommendations needed to achieve the 2030 Global Agenda in the field of adult education in Kosovo.  Considering the Global Adult Education Agenda 2030, all participants agreed that Kosovo should be listed as an integral part of this agenda, address the up-to-date achievements and make the necessary recommendations to implement the framework of actions necessary for the further development of adult education in the Republic of Kosovo.

Mr. Ramadan Alija - Director of the DVV International office in Kosovo opened the conference, followed by addresses from Mrs. Valbona Fetiu Mjeku - MEST - Director of Vocational Training and Adult Education Department, Mrs. Jehona Rexha – MLSW - Director of Vocational Training Division, and Mr. Vedat Jashari - MCYS - Department of Youth Culture and Sport. A number of topics were presented during the Conference on the current state of adult education in Kosovo, and recommendations were addressed with a particular focus on the needs for change and further development of adult education in Kosovo. Following topics were elaborated and presented during the Conference:

Mrs. Radica Berishaj, MEST, “Current Situation, Challenges and Needs for Further Development of AE”;

Mr. Shpejtim Kalludra, MPMS, “Need for Skills according to Labor Market Requirements”;

Mr. Vedat Jashari, MCYS, “Youth Centers - Potential for Conduct of Non-Formal Education in Kosovo”;

Mr. Prof. Dr. Blerim Saqipi, UP, Active Citizenship and Democratization as an integral part of the AE;

Mr. Ramadan Alija, DVV International, “Global Agenda-2030, and the Role of Adult Education”.

During the second part of the Conference, three workshops were organized, with various working groups aimed at analyzing and addressing the action plan, through the necessary recommendations for:

  • Policies 
  • Governance 
  • Financing 
  • Inclusiveness and equality 
  • Quality in adult education

 

All recommendations from these workshops were forwarded to representatives of the ministries and other stakeholders participating in this Conference.

Local media, social media and the general Kosovan public expressed added interest in this Conference. In order to elaborate on the importance of this Conference, and the needs for further development of adult education in Kosovo, Mrs. Valbona Fetiu Mjeku of MEST and Mr. Ramadan Alija of DVV International were invited for discussion by national TV stations.
