Training of Trainers by vocational training centres based on Curriculum GlobALE

Curriculum GlobALE (CG) is a competence-based curricular modular framework for the training of adult educators worldwide. The qualification level is a basic qualification for adult education. Due to the lack of andragogic knowledge of trainers providing adult vocational training in the 7 vocational training centres in Kosovo, DVV International has, in cooperation with the Employment Agency of the Republic of Kosovo (EARK), organised trainings for the trainers in question for modules 3 and 4 specified in the Curriculum GlobALE.

The trainings were held in the form of seminars, from 16-30 April 2019, and were attended by 24 young trainers engaged by the Employment Agency in Kosovo over the last 2-3 years, after the opening of new modular courses in the 7 vocational training centres.

Two professors of the Faculty of Education in Pristina were hired to conduct the trainings: Prof. Dr. Demë Hoti and Prof. Dr. Naser Zabeli, who have also previously demonstrated high performance in the implementation of trainings according to Curriculum GlobALE.

Both these professors are directly involved in teaching in the Faculty of Education in Pristina for the subjects of Lifelong Learning and Teaching Methodology.

The engagement of all the participants in these trainings was very high and the final results from these trainings indicate that all the participants in these seminars are now, after the completion of the trainings, able to demonstrate the knowledge gained from the Curriculum GlobALE for modules 3 and 4. In the last days of the workshops organized all the participants were provided with evaluation sheet for the workshops in question, which they have filled in and submitted to the organizers. 96℅ of the participants have assessed the workshops with the highest grade, and 4℅ of them have rated the workshops with satisfactory grades (all evaluation sheets are contained in workshop files).

All the workshop participants have expressed the need for the resumption of trainings for other modules specified in the Curriculum GlobALE package, and trainings sequels for other modules are foreseen to take place in 2020.

The implementation of the Curriculum GlobALE and integration of the curriculum in the state adult educational institutions, such as vocational training centres and vocational high schools in Kosovo, have helped boost the performance of adult trainers and educators significantly. The learning results described in the curriculum are the standard core that is consistent in all countries and cannot be altered.

In this regard, Curriculum GlobALE represents a sort of a meta-framework for adult educators’ competence: learning results set forth in the curriculum represent the competences that all adult educators must have, regardless of their geographical, cultural or institutional context or domain in which they work.
