New Adult Education Center in Georgia

The official opening ceremony of the Bolnisi Adult Education Center (Kvemo Kartli region) was held on October 8, 2021 in Bolnisi.

The official opening ceremony of the Bolnisi Adult Education Center (Kvemo Kartli region) was held on October 8, 2021, in Bolnisi.
DVV International Georgia has been engaged in the establishment of Adult Education Centers in Georgia since 2006. For the moment, Adult Education Centers are successfully functioning in Akhaltsikhe, Akhalkalaki, Koda, Shaumiani, Senaki, Jvari, Leliani, Keda, Chokhatauri, Ambrolauri, Kharagauli, and Khoni, providing diverse educational programs and activities which increase the quality of life of residents and contribute to increased employment and improved social and psychological atmosphere in the communities. From 2006-2021 the centers reached more than 200 000 beneficiaries.

Bolnisi is the 13th AECs established by DVV International Georgia Country Office.

The opening ceremony was attended by the H.E. German Ambassador to Georgia, Hubert Knirsch, Ms. Lidija Christmann, Head of Development Cooperation South Caucasus, Embassy of Germany to Georgia, Mr. Uwe Gartenschlaeger, Deputy Director of DVV International, Ms. Bettina Brand, DVV International Senior Desk Officer of Eastern Neighbourhood, Caucasus and South-East Europe regions Ms. Maja Avramovska, DVV International Regional Director for the Caucasus, and South-East Europe, Mr. Davit Sherazadishvili, Mayor of Bolnisi Municipality, representatives of the Georgian Adult Education Network (GAEN) and directors of the 13 AECs in Georgia. The guests could visit the workshops and courses in IT, welding, wood carving, construction, handcrafted souvenirs, felting, sewing, culinary, and mosaics and talk with students about their experiences and plans. 

In his speech, H.E. German Ambassador to Georgia Hubert Knirsch stressed the importance of Adult Education in Georgia and thanked DVV International for its efforts. He mentioned the citizen's interest in the AECs and their involvement in activities that serve to develop the regions. Mr. Uwe Gartenschlaeger, Deputy Director of DVV International, also addressed the audience, highlighted the significance of the opening of the Bolnisi AEC, and wished success for the center. 

The speeches were followed by the certificate awarding ceremony to the Bolnisi AEC students by GAEN and the meeting between the DVV International representatives and the directors of the 13 AECs in Georgia and GAEN. The guests vowed support for Bolnisi AEC and the other centers established by DVV International in Georgia.
