The project started in 2017 with the purpose of introducing an educational theater as a social change and development tool in Georgia. The project is implemented by local NGO “Aitsona Daitsona”, headed by German actress and director Mareike Wenzel (https://www.facebook.com/aitsonadaitsona/).
10 adult education centres established by DVV International in different regions of Georgia hosted 2017 two performances for young adults dedicated to the topcs of violence, gender and environmental protection. Mr. Volker Ludwig, the founder of GRIPS Theaters (Berlin), was invited to deliver a public lecture and facilitate a discussion for educators and theater researchers in Tbilisi. The theme of the lecture was “Theater as a Tool for Education and Its Use for Strengthening Children and Young Adults”.
In 1018 DVV International’s ten adult education centers hosted a two-day workshop for educators and other stakeholders titled “Modern Educational Theater for Children and Young Adults as a Tool for Social Change and Development in Georgia”. Workshop participants become acquainted with traditions of Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed (Brazil) and modern methods used by drama teacher Maia Platt and GRIPS Theaters.
Further the members of “Aitsona Daitsona” created a script for an educational interactive play on the topic of bullying in school, university, family, society, workplace as well as on the unemployment issues. They presented their perfomances in 10 regional AECs, founded. Children, young people and their parents participated in the performances.
