2021 was Marked by a Series of Community Events

In 2021 DVV International Armenia continued supporting partner orgainzations to discover the potential and the unique culture of their communities and involve community members in a number of initatives and events that focused on community mobilization and participation.

In 2021 DVV International Armenia continued supporting partner orgainzations to discover the potential and the unique culture of their communities and involve community members in a number of initatives and events that focused on community mobilization and participation. Below is a brief account of 2021 community events.

  • Throughout Septemtner 22-29 Martuni Women’s Community Council through its “Educational Pallete” ALE Center implemented a cultural week that included a series of cultural events such as exhibtions, round tables and workshops on cultural issues, musical recitals, film screenings and others. Around 260 particpants from the communities of Martuni sub-region attended  these events, including master classes for adults.  
  • On October 8,  an interesting festival was held in Gyumri, which was organized and implemented by  ”Kachmeruk” Educational Consultative Center. Entitled “Cheese and Bread, Food for Action” the festival intended to popularize the tradition of making unique string cheese in Shirak region. Cheese producing small family businesses and cooperatives presented their produce at the event, including Amasya cheese plant. Over 120 beneficiaries, tourists, guests attended the festival and the overall campaign.  The festival was part of DVV Armenia’s Adult Education for Sustainable Development Goals campaign.
  • On October 10,   “Arishta Festival” took place in Bjni community of Kotayk region. The purpose of this colorful and interactive event was the preservation and populariziation of arishta (Armenian handmade pasta) making. The festival also served as a platform for an intergenerational dialogue about transfer of traditions. The guests of the festival, community members had an opportunity to involve in different processes of arishta making as well as taste different dishes made of arishta and generally the produce and products typical to the region. The festival was organized and implemented by DVV International’s partner organization in Kotayk, Improve Our Village NGO.
  • On October 17,   for the first time ever a Career Fairs was in Sissian. The fair was organized and imlemented by Sisian Adult Education Center and mobilized over 200 participants from the community that had a chance to familiarize with the Center’s educational offers as well as with services and educational programs provided by 20 other instituions. The fair was part of DVV Armenia’s Adult Education for Sustainable Development Goals campaign.
  • On October 23-24, for the first time ever a Pumpkin Festival was held at the Hovq community of Tavush region. The festival was the final event in the capacity building program of community members/farmers focused on sustainable agriculture implemented by Green Lane NGO, a member of DVV International Armenia’s non-formal ALE network. The event was attended by around 1000 participants from across Armenia as well as tourists.   
  • On November 23,  the final event of “Healing Kitchen” project was organized in Dilijan by Dilijan Community Center, an AEC supported by DVVI-Armenia. Displaced womend from Hadruit and Shushi regions of Artsakh presented the dishes and cuisine traditions of their native communities. They spoke about the smells and tastes that form part of their identity and remind them about their homes they were forced to leave. The event was part of DVV Armenia’s Adult Education for Sustainable Development Goals campaign.
  • Throughout October-November a number of events were organized in Sevan as part of “Let the Park Be” initiative implemented by Sevan Youth Club, member of DVV International Armenia’s non-formal ALE network.  These events included a tree planning (around 150 fruit and decorative tree saplings), cleaning of the park and installation of benches/decorations, as well as workshops and discussions through which the overall concept of reviving Sevan’s Public Park was developed.  

All these events were organized with support of DVV International’s Armenia country office with funding provided by the Geman Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
