In June 2019 DVV International Georgia Country Office initiated a study “Awareness on Adult Education and Lifelong Learning among the Local Municipality Representatives.” The research aimed to reveal the attitudes, awareness, and needs of the local municipality representatives in Adult Education (AE). With this purpose, the research team developed a self-administered questionnaire and conducted interviews with the representatives of eleven municipalities of Georgia.
The data analysis reveals that the municipality representatives show positive attitudes towards AE, speak of its importance, and are willing to attend training sessions related to the topic. However, the results illustrate that their understanding and knowledge of AE is not systematic and is based on what they have heard, rather than based on what they have learned. Besides, the municipality representatives lack information on policy-level regulation of AE and its implementation. Finally, the topic is not a priority and there is no intention to take active measures AE for development.
