Opening of modular courses for Tailor in the Vocational Training Center (VTC) Gjilan

DVV International in Kosovo is committed to supporting and further enhancing the capacity of eight Vocational Training Centers in Kosovo (EARK, MLSW).

These Training Centers offer free of charge 3-6 month modular courses to persons registered as unemployed at employment centers in eight regions of Kosovo. According to Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), unemployment rate in Kosovo is 30.7%, with higher unemployment rate among women with 34.8%, compared to men, 29.5%.

These Training Centers offer free of charge 3-6 month modular courses to persons registered as unemployed at employment centers in eight regions of Kosovo. According to Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), unemployment rate in Kosovo is 30.7%, with higher unemployment rate among women with 34.8%, compared to men, 29.5%.

Through this project, DVV International is committed to reducing the number of unemployed persons, especially women, who have lower level of education and who have expressed a desire to attend courses of Tailor, who will have better opportunities in the job market after completion. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Employment Agency of the Republic of Kosovo (EARK) and the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare (MLSW), which aims to alleviate unemployment, especially among women in the municipality of Gjilan. In absence of funds from EARK, MPMS, for the purpose of implementing this project, DVV International provided the necessary equipment for the training cabinet at the Vocational Training Center in Gjilan, and provided the monthly salary for a selected Trainer for Tailoring until the end of 2020.

Vocational Training Center (VTC) in Gjilan provided the training facility, curricula for the Tailor vocation and will evaluate and certify the training participants, following legal provisions of vocational training in Kosovo (the programs to be provided to the trainees will be recognized by the National Qualifications Authority in Kosovo).

This project envisages the vocational training of at least 100 persons per year (mainly women) registered as jobseekers from the Municipality of Gjilan.

The project is expected to last at least during the next five years and aims to alleviate unemployment, provide unemployed persons from the Gjilan region with opportunities for opening small businesses and self-employment. After the deterioration of the public health situation in Kosovo by the COVID-19, in VTC Gjilan too, the trainer and trainees are focused on the production of masks and protective clothing which will be donated free of charge to health organizations and people in need from the Gjilan region.
