On April 2, 2024, the inauguration of the Youth and Adult Learning and Education Center (YALEC) took place at the premises of the NGO THY in Prizren. This center was established in collaboration between DVV International and NGO THY and represents an institution with an important mission for the education and training of young people and adults in the Municipality of Prizren. YALEC-Prizren (Youth and Adult Learning and Education Centre – Prizren) will provide educational programs tailored to the needs of communities from the municipality of Prizren, creating a platform for young people and adults to pursue their passions and expand their knowledge.
The opening ceremony of the Youth and Adult Learning and Education Center was an important event, supported by leaders of many local, central, and international institutions, civil society, as well as officials from the fields of education and development, among the attendees were: Minister of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ms. Arbërie Nagavci; Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kosovo, Mr. Jörn Rohde; Regional Director of DVV International for the Caucasus and Southeast Europe, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg; Rector of the “Ukshin Hoti” University in Prizren, Mr. Mentor Alishani; Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Prizren, Mr. Kujtim Gashi; Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Mr. Sylejman Elshani
Minister Nagavci emphasized the importance of opening this center, which represents a significant step towards lifelong learning and the successful model of German popular schools in non-formal education. She thanked the German Government for its support and continuous contribution to the development of the Kosovan economy and society. She also highlighted the actions taken by the Ministry of Education to improve adult education and lifelong learning.
According to Ambassador Rohde, such centers in Germany and around the world are on the rise, and in his opinion, the common focus should be on investments in people as a progressive and developed society.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Gashi congratulated DVV International and NGO THY for the opening of this center, appreciating that such projects are welcomed and will have the support of the Municipality of Prizren.
Rector Alishani added that the coordination of formal and non-formal education is essential for the development of an educated society.
Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, Regional Director of DVV International for the Caucasus and Southeast Europe, highlighted the important role of DVV International in Kosovo over the past 20 years in the field of education and training for young people and adults. He noted that the opening of the YALEC-Prizren center would not have been possible without the cooperation and commitment of colleagues from the DVV International office in Kosovo, under the leadership of Mr. Ramadan Alija, and partners from NGO THY. He also added that lifelong learning is a fundamental component for the development of a modern society, and the YALEC-Prizren center will play a key role in realizing this vision.
The opening of this holistic center for the education and training of young people and adults in Prizren is a very important step for the advancement of education in the country and serves as a successful model that other municipalities in Kosovo can follow.
