From May 7 to May 9, 2024, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, Regional Director of DVV International for the Caucasus and Southeast Europe, visited Kosovo and held meetings with relevant stakeholders and partners of DVV International in Kosovo.
His visit was a continuation of the workshop held on April 4, 2024, which was organized by DVV International, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, and seven Youth Centers in Kosovo. During this workshop, the Youth Centers were informed about the upcoming three-year program phase of DVV International in Kosovo and were invited to apply for the establishment of Adult Learning and Education Centers within the premises of these Youth Centers.
Several Youth Centers expressed their interest by submitting applications for potential collaboration with DVV International in Kosovo
On May 7, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, together with Mr. Ramadan Alija, Director of DVV International in Kosovo, and Ms. Merita Shala, Coordinator of the DVV International Office in Kosovo, visited the Local Youth Action Council in Peja (LYAC)-Peja). During this visit, a three-party Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Municipality of Peja, DVV International, and KVRL-Peja.
On May 8, 2024, a meeting was held with the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Viti, Mr. Hasan Aliu, and the representative of YC-Viti, Ms. Donjeta Sadiku. The purpose of the visit was to assess the technical and professional capacities of this youth center, including its workspace, programs, and collaboration with the municipality. Among other things, Ms. Sadiku emphasized that this center focuses on involving housewives, individuals with special needs, and municipal officials in its activities, with the aim of enhancing the capacities for non-formal education and adult learning. Deputy Mayor Mr. Aliu confirmed the Municipality of Viti’s willingness to support the launch of Adult Education and Learning (ALE) within the premises of YC-Viti. This support would be provided in terms of infrastructure and human resources.
Further discussions were held with representatives from the University of Prishtina, Mr. Naser Zabeli and Mrs. Fjolla Kacaniku. They thanked DVV International for the support and ongoing cooperation regarding the Global Curriculum program, which aims to enhance the professionalism of adult educators through the implementation of Training of Trainers programs. The program is awaiting accreditation and will soon accept applications for participants.
On May 9th, the visits continued to the Youth Center in Klina, where Mrs. Vitore Zefi emphasized the center's history and activities, as well as the need for non-formal education, especially for the age group of 40-45-year-olds who are mostly unemployed and inactive.
Furthermore, at the meeting at the Hareja Youth Center in Vushtrri, the center's representative, Mr. Bajrush Kosumi, presented the center's educational programs, which include coding, robotics, programming, language courses, design, and tailoring. He emphasized that the center's human capacities and infrastructure are key assets, offering opportunities to promote diversity and equal opportunities for both youth and adults. Both centers expressed their willingness to cooperate with DVV International to improve their educational offerings.
