In cooperation with the NGO - KEC (Kosovo Education Center) during December 2021, a three-day training was held on “Education for Active Citizenship and Human Rights”. The primary purpose of this training was Capacity Building of Young People and Teachers from Social Subjects and Familiarity with the Concepts of Active Citizenship and Human Rights. Training participants were selected through an open call published on the official communication channels of KEC and social networks. Out of 42 applications to take part in these trainings, 25 participants who best met the set criteria were selected. It should be noted that the group has been very heterogeneous, i.e., a very mixed group in terms of ethnicity, religion, gender, and vocation. The training was organized in 10 sessions. In the first session, after the introductory remarks by the KEC and DVV International representatives, the participants were introduced and talked about their work and the experience they will bring to the training. In addition, a short film was screened during this session to boost the debate on respect for human rights and anti-discrimination principles.

In sessions 2-9, the training covered the following key topics:

  • Understanding active citizenship;
  • Cultural prejudice and stereotypes;
  • Human rights;
  • Activating active citizenship;
  • The role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in promoting active citizenship and human rights;

All these sessions were provided through various tasks and group work.  To ensure further dissemination of knowledge, skills, and abilities, the final training session focused more on preparing future individual plans, where all participants planned specific tasks to complete in their workplace and where they conduct their daily activity. All participants filled in the training evaluation questionnaire at the end of the training. Findings of the evaluations and impressions during the reflective session show that 95% of the participants evaluated these trainings with the maximum grade, therefore we can conclude that the training had a great effect on improving their knowledge on active citizenship and human rights. After completing the training, on December 29, 2021, the certification ceremony was held, and the certificates were awarded to all participants.
