Lifelong Learning Week

DVV International, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MEST), the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MLSW), the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and other education stakeholders in the Republic of Kosovo, organized the "Lifelong Learning Week" (LLW), which was held from 19-23 of November, 2018, in 5 different regions of Kosovo.

DVV International, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MEST), the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MLSW), the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and other education stakeholders in the Republic of Kosovo, organized the "Lifelong Learning Week" (LLW), which was held from 19-23 of November, 2018, in 5 different regions of Kosovo. This week of learning has enabled the promotion of learning of all kinds by supporting the interests and skills of different age groups involved in the educational process in the Republic of Kosovo. In this week's organized activities participated DVV International partner organizations in Kosovo and representatives from MEST, MCYS, MLSW, civil society organizations and the NGO sector, private training providers, universities, and citizens of different age groups from the Republic of Kosovo. 

 

Activities organized during the LLW 19-23 November 2018

· 19 November 2018 - “Lifelong Learning, a necessity for the creation of a society of knowledge” Conference, Sirius Hotel, Prishtina;

· 19-20 November 2018 - "Promoting Lifelong Learning in Kosovo” Fair, Sirius Hotel, Prishtina;

· 20 November 2018 - "Creating a culture of lifelong learning in Kosovo" Symposium, Faculty of Education in Prishtina;

· 21-23 November 2018 - Workshops in 4 Regions of Kosovo, organized in cooperation with MCYS. Open discussions within 4 Youth Centers from: Peja, Prizren, Gjilan and Mitrovica, with the youth of the mentioned regions in order to amend the law on the empowerment and participation of Kosovar youth.

Lifelong Learning, a necessity for the creation of a society of knowledge” Conference, 19.11.2018

The participants of this conference were representatives of various Kosovo education institutions, local and foreign experts who elaborated various topics related to specific areas of lifelong learning, topics that were discussed within the panels.

The conference was attended by 107 persons, who contributed to discussions during the panels organized within this conference. The official opening of the conference was made by Mr. Ramadan Alija, Director of the DVV International Office in Kosovo, who thanked the participants, other organizations and supporters for their participation and the work done for the promotion of continuous learning, shared with the audience the concept of the "Lifelong Learning Week", and his wishes that the activities organized during this week of learning may serve as a bridge for cooperation in the further development and strengthening of lifelong learning in Kosovo.

The official opening of the LLW was also addressed by high representatives of MEST and MCYS, such as Mr. Heset Sahiti, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and Ms. Leonora Morina, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The latter, during their speeches, indicated the role of the relevant institutions and their readiness to further strengthen lifelong learning and adult education in Kosovo. During this conference were organized three panels, with different panelists from state education institutions, private institutions and various non-governmental organizations.

Fair - Promoting lifelong learning, November 19-20, Prishtina

Within this LLW, along with the central conference was organized also the Promotion Fair of different education providers in Kosovo. The fair was open to visitors on 19 and 20 November 2018, from 10:00 to 16:00. In this fair participated state and private educational institutions, private providers of trainings, non-governmental organizations, associations, vocational schools and centers of competence, vocational training centers and youth centers from all regions of Kosovo. A total of 38 exhibitors participated in this fair and had the chance to present their services to fair visitors through various printed and digital materials. During the two days of the fair, around 2000 citizens of different age groups visited the fair and received numerous information from the exhibitors for their educational programs.

 20 November 2018 - "Creating a culture of lifelong learning in Kosovo" Symposium, Faculty of Education- Prishtina

The Lifelong Learning Week continued at "Hasan Prishtina” University, Faculty of Education in Prishtina, with the symposium on the topic "Creating a culture of lifelong learning in Kosovo", organized from 14:00 to 17:00. This symposium was attended by about 47 participants, bachelor and master students and lecturers of the Faculty of Education in Prishtina.

During this symposium, the audience had the opportunity to hear the elaboration of the following topics presented by:

· Prof. Dr. Majlinda Gjelaj - Representation of lifelong learning in the programs of the Faculty of Education;

· Prof. Dr. Naser Zabeli - Education challenges today;

· Prof. Dr. Deme Hoti - Impact of Non-Institutional Forms in Lifelong Education;

·  MA Ramadan Alija - Global policies and lifelong learning development processes.

21-23 November 2018 - Seminars in 4 Regions of Kosovo (Peja, Prizren, Gjilan and Mitrovica) Open discussion on amending the Law on Empowerment and Participation of Kosovar Youth.

Through the organization of seminars in the four regions specified above, youth organizations and representatives of Youth Centers were made aware of the amendment of the law on empowerment and participation of youth. Given the fact that MCYS has foreseen this year to organize public debates with young people, representatives from Youth Councils, Youth Centers and other organizations dealing with social and economic integration of Kosovar youth, these seminars are organized within this LLW, and have significantly contributed to the completion of the law with the needs and recommendations presented during these seminars.

In addition to other requests submitted by participants that need to be integrated into the new law on youth empowerment and participation in Kosovo, a special request was to recognize volunteering as work experience, as many young people have volunteered and will need in the future to fill out their CVs to be more competitive in the labor market.

All recommendations from the debates organized in the four above mentioned cities after the end of the activities have been submitted to the MCYS and are expected to be integrated in the amendment of the new law on the empowerment and participation of Kosovar youth.
