Visit to Kosovo by Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, Regional Director of DVV International for the Caucasus and Southeast Europe

From October 2 to October 5, 2023, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, the Regional Director for the Caucasus and Southeast Europe, visited Kosovo. During this visit, he had meetings with various representatives of DVV International in Kosovo.

On October 2, 2023, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, together with Mr. Ramadan Alija, the Director of DVV International in Kosovo, Ms. Rozafa Aliu, the Coordinator of the DVV International office in Kosovo, and Ms. Mevlude Pacolli, Project Assistant at DVV International in Kosovo, held a meeting with representatives of THY, a non-governmental organization. This meeting was followed by a jointly organized workshop.

 

From October 2 to October 5, 2023, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, the Regional Director for the Caucasus and Southeast Europe, visited Kosovo. During this visit, he had meetings with various representatives of DVV International in Kosovo.

On October 2, 2023, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg, together with Mr. Ramadan Alija, the Director of DVV International in Kosovo, Ms. Rozafa Aliu, the Coordinator of the DVV International office in Kosovo, and Ms. Mevlude Pacolli, Project Assistant at DVV International in Kosovo, held a meeting with representatives of THY, a non-governmental organization. This meeting was followed by a jointly organized workshop.

During this workshop, the needs for renovating the THY NGO facility were analyzed, to ensure that the facility is suitable for the development of holistic and inclusive courses and programs for adult education in the Municipality of Prizren. Additionally, during this workshop, the necessary budget proposal for the launch of this Adult Education Center was discussed. Furthermore, the first 5 courses (specified below) to be offered at this center were determined:

  • Foreign languages
  • Marketing and communication
  • Tour guiding
  • Yoga (at least once a week)
  • CV preparation and employment counseling

The selection of these initial 5 courses was based on an analysis of the needs of the adult community in Prizren, which was conducted during the previous year with financial support from DVV International.

Additionally, during this workshop, budgetary requirements were identified for technical and professional support, the necessary personnel, equipment, and other materials essential for commencing the courses mentioned earlier in this Adult Education Center.

The visit to Prizren continued with representatives from the Municipality of Prizren's Department of Education. During this meeting, both parties committ to mutual cooperation with the Municipality of Prizren, specifically with the Municipal Department of Education. Mr. Nexhat Maçkaj, the municipal representative for education in Prizren, who led this meeting in the absence of Ms. Violeta Gegaj-Veselaj, the Director of the Municipal Department of Education in Prizren, committed that the Municipality of Prizren would promptly commence the development of a local education strategy in Prizren. Financial and professional support from DVV International will be necessary to ensure that Adult Education and Training (ALE) is an integral part of this strategy.

On October 3, 2023, the visit continued in the Municipality of Peja, during which a meeting with representatives from the Peja municipality was held, including Ms. Shqipe Karagjyzi, the Senior Education Officer in the Municipality of Peja, and Mr. Leonard Shabanaj, the Municipal Director of the Legal Department of Education in Peja. During the meeting, Mr. Shabanaj explained to those present the reasons why it was not possible to approve the decision, for the use of the previously offered facility, for the opening of an ALE center from the Municipality of Peje, respectively from the mayor of this municipality. Mr. Gazmend Muhaxheri.

At the end of the meeting, it was discussed about the possibility of organizing a meeting with the mayor of the municipality of Peja in order to further coordinate and engage both parties for the opening of a new center for ALE in Peja.

Then, the visit continued to the Professional Training Center (VTC) in Peja. During this visit, an official meeting was held with Mr. Edison Berdyna, Director of the Professional Training Center (VTC) in Peja. Mr. Berdyna expressed his gratitude to DVV International for the help and contribution given in the past to VTC - Peja during the past few years.

On October 4, various meetings continued with representatives from partner organizations of DVV International in Kosovo. Some of these meetings included:

The meeting with Ms. Fikrije Zymberi, Director of the Agency for Vocational Education and Training and Adult Education (AVETAE). A meeting with Ms. Ryve Prekorogja, Board Director of the "Adult Learning and Education Network in Kosovo" (ALE NK).  A meeting with Mr. Lah Nitaj, Director of the Department of Vocational Education and Adult Education at the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and innovation (MESTI). Mr. Lichtenberg and Mr. Alija also visited the "Faculty of Education" in Prishtina, where they met with Ms. Fjolla Kaçaniku and Prof. Naser Zabeli.Throughout these meetings, the current achievements from the ongoing collaboration between both parties were discussed, as well as future plans for the implementation of joint planned activities.

The last meeting, that took place on October 5, 2023, as part of Mr. Lichtenberg's visit to Kosovo, was held with representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports (MCYS). Specifically, the meeting was conducted with Mr. Xhevat Bajrami, Director of the Department of Youth, and Ms. Filloreta Kuqi, Leader of the Non-Formal Education Sector within MCYS.

The visit of Mr. Lichtenberg in Kosovo concluded with an organized workshop attended by the entire local staff of the DVV International office. The workshop focused on planning the project "Professionalization of adult education centers in Europe/Kosovo", specifically, the planning for the upcoming three-year phase from 2025 to 2027. During this workshop, the objectives and indicators for the entire 9-year project period were analyzed, including a review of past achievements from the first phase (2019-2021), the second phase (2022-2024), and the project objectives for the next three years (2025-2027) were determined.
