On April 4, 2024, at the premises of Hotel Sirius in Pristina, a workshop was held organized in collaboration with the office of DVV International in Kosovo, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports (MCYS), and several selected Youth Centers by MCYS.
The aim of this workshop was for both parties, DVV International and Youth Centers, to get to know each other in more detail and exchange information about their activities and projects. This workshop focused specifically on analyzing the technical and professional capacities of these Youth Centers and the possibilities of cooperation and launching adult education and training within these centers.
Twenty-two participants took part in this workshop, including the Director of the Youth Department within MCYS, Mr. Xhevat Bajrami; the Head of the non-formal education sector in MCYS, Ms. Filloreta Kuqi; the Regional Director of DVV International for Southeast Europe and the Caucasus, Mr. Thomas Lichtenberg; and the Director of the Office of DVV International in Kosovo, Mr. Ramadan Alija. Representatives of 8 Youth Centers from the Republic of Kosovo were also present: Youth Centers in Klina, Vitia, Peja, Kamenica, Skenderaj, Vushtrri, Kaçanik, and the Youth Center in Rahovec.
Mr. Xhevat Bajrami emphasized the importance of this workshop in presenting the programs of Youth Centers as providers of non-formal education, which helps in the personal and professional development of young people and adults.
Meanwhile, Ms. Kuqi focused on addressing the challenges faced by Youth Centers, such as the lack of technical and professional capacities, etc. She also provided a brief presentation on the objectives of the State Strategy for Youth 2024/2032, which is also expected to be implemented in cooperation with Youth Centers in Kosovo.
Furthermore, Mr. Lichtenberg described in detail the activities of DVV International globally, and its activities in 32 different countries worldwide. During his presentation, Mr. Lichtenberg also provided information to the attendees about understanding adult education and the importance and benefits of adult education in times of global transformation, addressing various social challenges such as digitization, migration, pandemic consequences, etc.
During the presentation of the work and activities of DVV International in Kosovo, Mr. Alija presented the activities carried out during the past three-year phases of the project and the DVV International office in cooperation with various partners in Kosovo, and explained the organization's future steps for the period 2025-2027. The focus was on inter-institutional cooperation, the expansion of the ALENK network, and the opening of new holistic centers for education and training of young people and adults in Kosovo.
The new AE (ALE) centers will offer new opportunities for residents and communities to access and participate in quality AE programs and contribute to their personal knowledge enhancement, skill development for the labor market, as well as raising civic competencies for better participation in the community and society.
During this session, representatives from Youth Centers presented their field activities, sharing experiences, achievements, and challenges they face. Special emphasis was given to the financial challenges that affect the functionality of these centers, as well as the need for more support from state institutions.
Recommendations arising from this workshop include the need for more sustainable development and long-term programs to ensure the stability of these youth centers.
Representatives of DVV International - Mr. Lichtenberg and Mr. Alija, explained the possibilities of support from DVV International in Kosovo for launching AE programs within these Youth Centers. DVV International plans to open at least two new holistic ALE centers during the upcoming three-year phase 2025-2027, which can be launched within the facilities of these Youth Centers.
At the end of this workshop, DVV International promised all participants that they would receive forms prepared by DVV International to apply for technical and professional support from DVV International for the Youth Centers interested in launching centers and educational programs for adults within their Youth Centers.
